A student team from IIT KGP has won the Marketing Challenge in partnership with Unilever during Solvay Business Game held in March 2016 at Brussels, Belgium. 400 participants from 25 countries were selected for final round. The wining team is from the student society called IIT Kharagpur Business Club. The team members are Nishant Jayaswal from Dept. of Biotechnology and Manik Aggarwal from Dept. of Agriculture and Food Engineering, both studying in 3rd year.
In the 4 hours event of marketing challenge the team from IIT Kharagpur Business Club was partnered with 3 MBA students from UCL Belgium and one M.Tech. student from KUL Belgium as allocated by the organizing committee on a random team selection basis.
The problem statement was centred on compressed deodorant cans that Unilever has launched. It was facing certain problems, such as people weren’t able to differentiate between compressed cans, which work equally well as the mini cans, launched by competitors of Unilever. The solution of the team from KGP was to change the shape of the compressed cans in order to create a different brand image for these compressed cans by Unilever. The team provided detailed explanation of their selection for Unilever’s Dove product along with financial quantification.
Another team from IIT Kharagpur became runner up in the Negotiation Challenge. Team comprised two 3rd year students Dhruva Ratanpura from Dept of Electrical Engineering and Murtaza Phalasiya from Dept. of Industrial and Systems Engineering. There were two more teams from IIT Kharagpur. Teams from IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Bangalore also participated in the Online Challenge of the event.
